Highland Place is a vibrant and friendly retirement home providing quality care to independent Kitchener seniors for more than 30 years. Our unique one-floor bungalow style layout offers 83 suites around beautiful private courtyard.

Highland Place features bright, clean and spacious suites, comfortable and affordable retirement living and the best nursing and care team around. We offer tasty home cooked meals, a robust social calendar and incredible residents and resident families. As well, we offer a range of care services to promote and maintain independence for our residents.

We have been voted as Kitchener-Waterloo’s favorite Retirement Community for the last six years. We have earned a reputation for our diverse recreational programming and exceptional culinary experiences. Our resident specific care plans offer an extensive care choice to meet your changing needs.

Our Courtyard

Our courtyard is an accessible and beautiful outdoor space. Home to beautiful flowers and trees, the courtyard is a great place to curl up with a book or sit in the sun and enjoy coffee or tea. If you have a green thumb put on your gardening gloves, grab your snippers and be part of our gardening family.

At Highland Place, we love recreation of all types, styles, and interests.  Active living starts with a full range of physical activities, learning programs and social functions filling your calendar.  Each day can be as busy or as relaxed as you choose it to be.  At Highland Place, you have the opportunity to stay physically, socially, intellectually and spiritually active in a warm and welcoming environment.

The Bistro Café

Our café is open 24/7 and is a great gathering spot that offers a beautiful view of our courtyard and gardens. Enjoy a cup of coffee or tea and socialize with other residents or family and friends. There is lots of space to sit and relax and we keep it the Café full of snacks for in between meals.

Christopher Jung

Executive Director

Chris’s passion and experience in Senior Living is what makes him one of the most trusted leaders and knowledgeable Executive Directors in the senior living profession. Chris is responsible for all aspects of life at Highland Place.

Chris has an open-door policy and is always happy to speak with residents and their families about any concerns or ideas they have about life at Highland Place. Chris works hard to make sure that Highland Place is always at its best. Chris is the steady ground you need if you ever have a concern. His extraordinary attentiveness, concern and commitment to our staff and residents makes living at Highland Place feel like the safe and comfortable retreat you’ve been looking for.

When not focusing his time, care and attention on the residents at Highland place, Chris enjoys sports, particularly hockey. Also in his spare time, he loves to travel and is passionate about the history of people and places.

Theresa Matheson

Director of Administration

Theresa is our longest serving manager who has been in her position at Highland Place for over 22 years. If you have questions, Theresa will have your answers.

Theresa has a passion for organizing and makes sure everything at Highland Place runs smoothly. No matter how busy she is, Theresa greets everyone with a warm smile.

In her spare time, Theresa enjoys going to the movies and chilling out on her patio swing. She also loves to bowl!

Caroline Tzeckas

Recreation Manager

Caroline is the heart of our home and has a passion for helping others. She is the person you go to when you are looking to have some fun, try something new or even pick something back up that once loved. Whether it’s organizing weekly live music, themed parties and activities, daily brain training, exercise programs, outings, competitive games, or just kicking back and having some fun- Caroline will be sure to deliver. Her 28 years of experience, knowledge and skills combined with her energetic and caring personality provides her with the unique ability to understand the seniors needs. It is often commented upon, by anyone who comes into contact with Caroline, that she has incredible energy, passion and dedicated to the resident experience.

Caroline has won multiple company awards for the fun filled recreation programs that are creative and full of variety and has recently won local Kitchener Waterloo Record Readers Choice Award for favourite professional Event Planner. She is an important and wonderful part of the team at Highland Place!

On top of being a Recreation Manager extraordinaire, Caroline loves her family, her dogs and white wine! In her spare time, she enjoys many exiting activities, including white water rafting, kayaking and hiking.

Danielle Eberhardt, RPN

Director of Health and Wellness

Danielle is the one who ensures the health and safety of all our staff and residents. She is an integral part of keeping our Residence safe, secure and thriving. Her nursing and medical background and knowledge of each of our residents, including their medical history and personal needs, makes her the one person who you can turn too.

She not only understands you but wants what’s best for you. She will act as your health and care ambassador to ensure that you are receiving the care and services that are best suited for you to live well. She will give you the peace of mind in knowing that someone is looking out and making sure you have the quality of life you deserve.

In her spare time, Danielle, loves cottaging, going to the gym and spending time with family and friends.

Nicole McNall

Senior Living Consultant

Navigating the complex world of Retirement Living and senior services can be overwhelming. Nicole’s passion for helping others and her ability to really get down to your level and understand your wants and needs will make you feel listened to and respected. Her 8 years of experience in Sales and Marketing in the Senior Housing sector will provide knowledgeable advice to guide and educate you as you begin your search into retirement living options.

Nicole will help direct you through all the fears and unknowns that may come along with this transition. She will shine a light on all the many benefits of retirement living and help you decide what’s the next best move for you or your loved one.

Nicole has many exiting and interesting hobbies, including baseball, swimming, fishing, hiking and good food! However, her favourite pastime is spending time with her daughter!

Derick King

Director of Environmental Services

Derick oversees and manages house keeping and works hard to ensure that our residents reside in a clean and sanitary environment. He has many years of experience in customer service throughout different fields and maintenance departments; high rise buildings, hotels, residential installations and maintenance upkeeps. Derick takes great pride in his work and has many responsibilities that include, repairing anything and everything inside and outside. Another important part of his job is the preventive maintenance of the interior and the exterior of the building. He always responds when a resident needs any repairs to their suite, that includes and is not limited to electrical and plumbing.

On top of all of that, Derick is a certified computer technician and has earned several safety certificates.  In his spare time, he enjoys collecting coins, motorcycles, fishing and 3D printing. Highland Place is lucky to have him and he is a welcome addition to our management team!
